CamperLab: between heritage and innovation

It has been a few seasons since Camper joined our brand list with styles and designs that are incredibly current and different from the common imagination. For this AW23 we took a further step inside the company, introducing CamperLab-the brand's line launched in 2015 and whose designer and creative director is the talented Achilles Ion Gabriel...

CamperLab: Evolving and strengthening of the Camper spirit

CamperLab was first launched in 2015 with the idea of creating a line of the Spanish brand that was aimed at experimentation, at creating progressive designs that, while remaining true to the Camper world, reinforced its image by giving it a more contemporary twist. Since the not-too-distant Fall-Winter23, Finnish designer Achilles Ion Gabriel - who has collaborated in the past with several international brands such as Marni and Sunnei - has taken the lead in the creative direction of CamperLab and subsequently the brand's main line.

The approach of CamperLab and its creative director, is one that is faithful to the origins and tradition of the Majorcan brand, but what elevates it is its pushing beyond, into a parallel Camper universe made up of research, authenticity, style and if you will, even contradictions that nevertheless coexist harmoniously.

Simple but sophisticated, honest but ironic.

As Achilles mentions in an interview, "it's as if Camper and I had made a child and what makes it different is that I can put more of myself pushing on design and creativity. We can use premium materials, both in terms of quality and commitment to sustainability, and most importantly experiment with new innovation techniques like the [sneakers] Tossu and the newly released Tormenta.

Indeed, it is the theme of innovation that is central within Camper and CamperLab: we talk about innovation in design and material research to move more and more toward producing accessories that are as bio-degradable as possible and that move toward having the least impact on the environment. Wood pulp fabrics such as Tencel Lyocell that fights carbon emission, materials such as Mirium that eliminates plastic in material composition, and many others...

In the end this is what innovation is all about, a personal design in the sense of identifying and having a solid idea behind it that over time is inspired by the changing world, connected to progress in production technologies always aimed at respecting the environment that hosts us.
