The reason the new Freitag backpack is called MONO is simple. It is made entirely of a single material that is infinitely recyclable...
MONO-PA6. One material, infinite reuses.
The new Mono[PA6] backpack from FREITAG is entirely circular. From the fabric to the zippers and buckles, it's made from a single material and can be easily recycled as a whole at the end of its life.
To make the recycling process as simple and respectful as possible, FREITAG has opted for the principle of monomateriality for its latest project. Polyamide 6, PA6 for short, which is better known as nylon, is the material chosen by Freitag for the MONO: versatile, robust, and adaptable.
To achieve this, it was necessary to find a total of 17 components made of PA6, all with specific requirements in terms of texture and properties: from a water-repellent primary material to sturdy zippers and solutions for carrying straps, labels, or sewing thread.
The design of the MONO[PA6] was developed in close collaboration with British designer Jeffrey Siu.
In true Freitag fashion, the backpack's design references the cycling culture that the Swiss brand is so closely tied to. The result is a lightweight and versatile companion that meets the many different needs of everyday urban life.
The MONO[PA6] also features a small detachable pouch that pays homage to an iconic cycling accessory and transforms a bike-friendly product into two. The pouch can be worn as a practical shoulder bag or serve as an additional external pocket when attached to one of the backpack's various points.
The backpack has a folded base and a flexible roll-top closure, making the volume adjustable. Additional external and internal compartments, a padded back with a laptop compartment, and handy extras like a quick-access compartment and a key ring give the Mono[PA6] backpack a typically FREITAG added value. And for once, completely without the use of truck tarpaulins.
